September
5th 2007 marked the 50th Anniversary of the publishing of Jack Kerouac's "On
The Road."
Throughout 2007, events marking this milepost have been going
on all over the world. Starting in January, Kerouacs first musical collaborator,
David Amram, has been tirelessly "Chasin' Cool' crisscrossing America
bringing his unique perspective and style to audiences across the country.
This October finds
David Amram bringing his joyous elaborations to Denver, CO from October 14th thru
the 18th to celebrate Kerouac's spirit and legacy.
Sunday,
October 14, 2-4 pm The First and Only Extended Reading of the Original
Scroll Manuscript of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" with John Ventimiglia
of HBO's "The Sopranos," Jack Kerouac's first musical collaborator,
composer, conductor and multi-instrumentalist David Amram and Amram's Denver
Based Trio Tony Black and Artie Moore at the B2 Conference Center
of the Denver Central Library. This event is free and open to the public.

Monday,
October 15, noon-2 pm American Dreamers, The Collaborative Work of Jack
Kerouac and David Amram. David discusses how Jack Kerouac's writings, ideas
and friendship influenced his symphonic work, including his two newest orchestral
pieces, "Symphonic Variations
on a Song by Woody Guthrie" and his "Giants
of the Night," a new flute concerto commissioned and premiered by
Sir James Galway, At the B2 Conference Center of the Denver Central
Library. This event is free and open to the public.

dramatic reading of a work by Howard Zinn Amram joins a cast of outstanding
actors, reading the roles of Chief Tecumseh and Howard Zinn himself,
as well as performing music for the Howard Zinn play "Voices of the People's
History" at the Curious Theater
on Acoma Street at 7:30 pm. Sponsored by Paradigm
Publishers.

1-5 pm Amram at University of Colorado Boulder: From Homer to
Hip Hop Amram joins Joshua Kupetz, one of the editors of the original Scroll
for Jack Kerouac's On the Road, and addresses Kupetz's students of English Literature,
demonstrating the relationship of literature and music in different societies
and how both authors and composers have used their own cultures to enrich their
creations, while also serving as documentarians of their time, as well as often
collaborating and being inspired by one another.
Thursday,
October 18, 4-5:30 pm Upbeat! 9 Lives of a Musical Cat, A Bilingual
Concert for Children and Adults David Amram and his trio play music from around
the world, with Amram narrating in English and Spanish. at the B2 Conference
Center of the Denver Central Library. This event is free and open to the public.
